Pakistan and Switzerland Friendship

Pakistan and Switzerland maintain a sound relationship. Both countries share over six decades of friendship, and have cooperated closely in several fields.

Pakistan and Switzerland have signed several agreements, which include an agreement on the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, the avoidance of double taxation, air traffic, technical and scientific cooperation.

Pakistan has an embassy in Bern, whereas Switzerland has embassy in Islamabad, a Consulate-General in Karachi and an honorary consulate in Lahore.

Switzerland ranks fifth in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan and a reliable trading partner, the Swiss-based multinational companies have invested 1.2 billion dollars in Pakistan, in various sectors including food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, machinery and engineering, banking. Thus providing jobs for over 10,000 Pakistanis.

Recently. Switzerland has been delivering development and humanitarian assistance to Pakistan through the SDC since 1966.

It’s helping Gender equality is one of the cross cutting themes of SDC’s development and humanitarian aid projects in kpk. After the earthquake that had previously struck the region in 2005. Reconstruction of destroyed or damaged schools, as well as other infrastructure, began in the summer of 2011. Construction of 17 more schools by mid-2015 in the project’s second phase.

These will provide 81 new classrooms for a total of 3,000 pupils. At the same time, an additional 7,000 schoolchildren will benefit from rehabilitation work on defective buildings. Support to Local Governance Programme (LoGo)

The programme will reduce the potential for conflict in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by improving the relationship and trust between the people and the State.

Under the project titled ‘Water Governance in KP,’ the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will provide an off-budget grant of 3.5 million Swiss francs (USD 3.56 million) to the Government of KP to support the improved management of water resources and ensure equitable access to safe drinking water in Peshawar and Mardan in 2018 and 2019.
