Myanmar will hold its first general election in two decades on November 7, state media has reported.

At least 29 more people have been killed as more torrential rains battered northwestern China, heightening fears of disease outbreak in mudslide-ravaged areas.

Overnight thunderstorms have brought fresh misery to survivors in a remote area of northwestern China.More heavy rains are forecast in the coming days, with up to 9cm of rain expected in the region on Friday.

The death toll from landslides that devastated an area of Gansun province in northwest China has jumped to at least 1,117 people.
